Half-day and full-day group tours typically visit 3–5 wineries with a professional guide handling logistics — transportation, reservations, tasting fees, and time management. Group tours run daily from May through October out of Kelowna, West Kelowna, and Penticton. Half-day tours generally cover a single sub-region; full-day tours often span two.
Private tours let you set the itinerary, pace, and winery list — ideal for wine enthusiasts with specific varietal interests, groups celebrating milestones, or corporate outings. Most private tour operators can customize experiences to include lunch pairings, food-and-wine matching, or behind-the-scenes cellar tours where available.
The Okanagan is well-signed for DIY wine touring. The Kelowna Wine Trail, West Kelowna Wine Trail, Naramata Bench Wineries Association route, and Golden Mile Bench (Oliver) route are all suited to a designated driver. Always have a non-drinking driver — BC has strict impaired-driving laws.
The Kettle Valley Rail Trail — especially the Myra Canyon and Naramata Bench sections — offers exceptional cycling between wineries. Tastings generally run 30–60 minutes and cover 4–6 wines. Some estates offer premium reserve flights, food pairings, or extended cellar tours for a higher fee.
May–June: fewer crowds, cool weather, blossom season. July–August: peak season, warmest weather, book everything in advance. September–October: harvest season with crush events and vibrant vineyard colour — the connoisseur's favourite window. November–April: some wineries close, but many offer intimate winter tastings by appointment.
Kelowna is the natural base for Central Okanagan tours. Penticton and Naramata are the base for South Okanagan and Naramata Bench tours. Oliver and Osoyoos anchor the far south.
