Oliver bills itself as the wine capital of Canada, and its events calendar shows why: winery dinners, vineyard concerts and harvest festivals dominate. Regular venues include the District Wine Village, Burrowing Owl Estate Winery's Sonora Room, Hester Creek Estate Winery, Tinhorn Creek Vineyards, Gold Hill Winery, the Red Barn at Jagged Rock, and Firehall Brewery in town. The Venables Theatre adds touring concerts, tribute shows, comedy and the South Okanagan Concert Series.
Wine and food are Oliver's two biggest categories: tasting-room events, winery restaurant dinners, and annual celebrations such as the Country Crush Festival at Nostalgia Wines and the Pig Roast at Quinta Ferreira Estate Winery. The Oliver Tourism Association also organizes a Wine Capital Weekend, with events at the District Wine Village and Oliver Community Park. See Oliver wineries and the valley-wide Okanagan wine events.
Beyond wine country, the Venables Theatre is the South Okanagan's main performing arts venue, drawing audiences from Oliver, Osoyoos and Penticton. See Okanagan concerts for the wider picture.
Spring is when many tasting rooms reopen and the first wine festivals run. Summer is hot and dry — evening patio concerts are the best fit. Fall is harvest, the busiest season for winery events. Winter is quieter, with many wineries on reduced or by-appointment hours, so check each venue before you go.
