Kelowna is the Okanagan's largest city and its busiest year-round destination, spread along the shore of Okanagan Lake. Beyond the event calendar above, here is how locals and visitors fill their time.
City Park and Waterfront Park anchor the downtown shoreline, with beaches, a lakefront boardwalk and summer outdoor events. Gyro Beach on the south side is a popular family beach. For views, hike or drive up Knox Mountain Park, and cycle or walk the Okanagan Rail Trail, which links Kelowna with Lake Country and Vernon.
Kelowna and neighbouring West Kelowna have dozens of wineries open for tastings, from Mission Hill and Quails' Gate to Sandhill, Summerhill Pyramid and Grizzli Winery, many with restaurants, patios and summer concerts. The craft-beer scene is just as busy, with taprooms such as Red Bird Brewing and live-music rooms such as Crown & Thieves hosting regular shows. See Kelowna and West Kelowna wine events.
The Kelowna Cultural District around the Rotary Centre for the Arts includes galleries, studios and a regular program of concerts and shows. Bigger acts play at Prospera Place, and the Kelowna Community Theatre hosts touring productions. See Kelowna concerts and Kelowna nightlife.
Big White Ski Resort, east of the city, runs a full winter season and a summer program. Spring brings blossom and the opening of winery patios, summer is lake and festival season, fall is harvest, and winter adds ice skating and holiday markets.
