Oliver calls itself the wine capital of Canada, and the surrounding benches — the Golden Mile Bench and the Black Sage Bench — hold dozens of wineries in a hot, dry, desert-like climate. It is the heart of South Okanagan wine country.
Burrowing Owl Estate Winery, Hester Creek Estate Winery, Tinhorn Creek Vineyards, Gold Hill Winery, Road 13 Vineyards, Inniskillin Okanagan and Black Hills Estate Winery are among the well-known stops. The District Wine Village brings several tasting rooms together on one site, which makes it an easy first stop. See Oliver wineries and Okanagan wine events.
Oliver's festival season includes harvest celebrations, winery dinners and the Oliver Tourism Association's Wine Capital Weekend. Several wineries have restaurants, and Firehall Brewery adds craft beer in town. See Oliver events.
The Okanagan River and nearby lakes offer cycling, birdwatching and paddling, and the Venables Theatre brings touring concerts, comedy and theatre to the South Okanagan.
